BARAMULLA, April 12: In an effort to boost the fisheries sector, the Baramulla Fisheries Department today hosted a reception at Dak Bungalow here where 23 sanctioned letters from fishing units were handed over to fish farmers for a total grant of Rs. 46 lac under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).
The function was held under the chairmanship of Baramulla District Development Council (DDC) Chairperson, Safeena Beigh.
Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) was launched in September 2020 with the aim of doubling the income of fish farmers and fishers in the country. It has focused on the sustainable development of the fisheries sector in India and is part of the Atma Nirbhar Bharat program.
Speaking on the occasion, the President said that the Baramulla Fisheries Department is a great platform where a large number of young people in the district are benefiting. She further said that the government should allocate more funds to the Department so that the unemployed beneficiaries benefit as a whole.
On occasion, she has urged young people to come forward to benefit from state and central government social welfare programs aimed at socio-economic development.
Meanwhile, Deputy Director of Fisheries Department Baramulla Mohammad Shafi inquired about the need for a mobile refrigerated van for marketing, during which SDC Chairman Baramulla assured that the issue would be discussed with higher authorities for its timely delivery.
