APCON threatens to sanction Glo for ad featuring actress Osas Ighodaro

Popular Nollywood actress Osas Ighodaro has been caught in the crosshairs of an advertisement aired on behalf of telecommunications company Globacom.

This was based on a statement released on Wednesday by the Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria, which criticized the Glo dial *109# “Link your NIN” advert featuring the sultry mother-of-one.

The campaign, which was sponsored by Globacom Limited, is currently airing on select TV channels and social media platforms, according to a statement released by the chairman of the advertising regulatory agency, Olalekan Fadolapo.

He said the advert, which was aimed at the Nigerian market, raised objections to the revelation of the model’s cleavage.

APCON had written to Glo, asking the telecom operator to stop future airing of the advertisement or face criminal penalties from the agency, according to the statement.

The statement said in part: “The advertisement has not been submitted or approved for display by the Advertising Standards Committee, the statutory body responsible for ensuring that advertising complies with the governing laws of the federation as well as to the Advertising Code of Ethics in Nigeria.

“We have written to the management of Globacom Limited, media stations and relevant government agencies to halt further advertising exposure on all social media platforms.”
